Mr. Matthews is Granite Development’s newest partner, teaming up in February, 2005, opening Granite’s first satellite location in Raleigh, North Carolina. He immediately began taking on responsibilities in the site selection process as well as overseeing the development phases of the shopping center industry. With Mr. Matthews’ leadership and willingness to share and capitalize on his ideas, he has already brought success to Granite Development.

Mr. Matthews, a Raleigh native, started his Real Estate career with Anthony and Company, a Raleigh based company. In 1996, he took a job with Konover Property Trust as a Senior Real Estate Executive where he was responsible for leasing North Carolina based shopping centers, outparcel sales, and re-developments. Prior to joining Granite Development, Mr. Matthews was a partner with Crosland, Inc. where he opened and oversaw their Raleigh retail development office. While at Crosland, Mr. Matthews was the lead developer for Poyner Place Shopping Center in Raleigh, McCrimmon Corners in Morrisville, and the Currituck Club in Corolla.

He graduated from North Carolina State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Mr. Matthews has most recently served on the Program Planning Committee for the International Council of Shopping Centers and is the State Chair for their Government Relations Committee and the State Chair for their Alliance Program. He coaches little league baseball and basketball in Raleigh and is involved with several other youth organizations. The Matthews family are committed members of Holy Trinity Church, where Mr. Matthews chairs the Christian Education Committee, teaches High School Sunday School, and serves on the Vestry.

Mr. Matthews is married to Virginia S. Matthews and has two children: Gray and McCauley.
