Ms. Powell joined Granite Development in 2006 as corporate counsel. Ms. Powell brought to Granite ten years of experience in representing commercial real estate developers and lenders. As corporate counsel for Granite, Ms. Powell handles land use matters, acquisitions, leasing, and dispositions of property by Granite and its affiliates. She works with the principals of Granite Development and Granite Commercial South to negotiate leases with national, regional and local retailers for the sale and lease of shop space and outparcels. Ms. Powell also represents Granite and its affiliates in financing transactions with regional and national lenders. Ms. Powell works with members of the Granite team in all stages of project development including due diligence, land planning and obtaining entitlements, acquisition, construction financing, leasing, and permanent financing or sale.

Prior to joining Granite Development, Ms. Powell was a member with Nexsen Pruet Adams Kleemeier, PLLC in Greensboro, North Carolina. As a member of the real estate practice group, Ms. Powell’s practice focused on commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, leasing and financing. She represented apartment, condominium, and townhouse developers, office and retail developers and residential tract builders, who developed property throughout North Carolina. She also worked with local counsel on projects in South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee. Ms. Powell has represented a number of local, regional and national lenders in making real estate secured loans to developers throughout North Carolina. Ms. Powell is a board certified specialist in commercial real property law: business, commercial and industrial transactions. She has been named among North Carolina’s “Legal Elite” by Business North Carolina. Ms. Powell is a member of the American and North Carolina Bar Associations and currently serves on the Real Property Section Council for Bar Association. She received her B.A., summa cum laude from Wake Forest University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and her J.D. with honors from the University of North Carolina where she was a member of the Holderness Moot Court National Team and The Order of the Barristers. Ms. Powell is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. She has also been involved with numerous professional, community and civic organizations including NAIOP, chambers of commerce, town zoning boards and Rotary.

Ms. Powell is married to Glenn Powell and has three children Davis, Connor and Camden. The Powells have recently returned to the Raleigh area and are active in the Wake Forest community and attend Duke Memorial Baptist Church.
